| Struthioniformes |
| Birds are a very large family of animals, so many, that they are broken down into groups by order, according to the Sibley-Ahlquist taxonomy- a new and increasingly approved taxonomy based on DNA analysis, as opposed to the older taxonomy, which was more based on appearance, geography, and behavior. |

Struthio camelus Length: 7-8' (2.1-2.6m) |
| Serengeti | |
| The Ostrich is a giant, flightless bird that can outrun a horse and
weight of around 300 lbs (135 kg). Their feathers are for
insulation, and are not flight-worthy. And, ostriches have the
biggest eyes of any land mammal. The sub-variety found in Serengeit is the Masai Ostrich, S. c. massaicus. |

This fellow was in the Central Serengeti, and just trundled on while I photographed him. Male ostriches are almost black in color. | ![]() |

| These ostriches were seen in the far south section of the Serengeti, not too far from Ndutu Safari Lodge, where we were heading when we saw them. The ostrich on the left is a male, and the other two are females- light brown to grey in color. | ||

| The picture is blurry, but it's the only shots I got of Ostriches in Ngorongoro Crater, where they also roam. These fellows were in the distance while we were photographing the Rhino, on the right. | |
