Ngorongoro Crater

Choose 3D Viewing Method

As we flew in on the first day of our African trip on the way to the Serengeti, we flew directly over Ngorongoro Crater, a place we'd be visiting on the ground a few days later.  It's a giant, extinct volcanic caldera about 12 miles across (20 km), with walls up to 2000 feet tall (~600m).  It's teeming with wildlife as well.  This ridgeline formed the rim of the crater.
