| We stopped on our safari by this river, and it was loaded with
crocodiles. Click on the image above for a full-sized version and
see if you can count how many are there. Click here when you think you've counted them all. I've broken the image up into pieces and annotated them. |
Here's a close-up of the fellow that's in the foreground of the picture above. It was understandable why our driver was nervous for us to be taking this picture. We had briefly stepped out of the vehicle, though these guys were at least a bit in the distance. Care to go for a swim? |

And, lest you think those were the only crocodiles in the area, just look a little to the left, and here are at least 3, possibly 4, more. |

Agama lizards are very common in Africa. They are social and tend to be in groups of up to 20 males and females. Only one male will be dominant and brightly colored, of which the photos above are an example. Other males are less brightly colored, and the females are brown. Only the dominant male gets to mate. |

This is a female Agama lizard. I was told it was a gecko originally, but on closer inspection I've determined it to be an Agama, as the females are more drab colored. It is interesting to note that when Agama's eggs hatch, the gender of the offspring depend totally on the temperature at which the eggs matured. 29C will result in all the eggs being male, and 26-27C will result in all being female. If any information here is wrong, and you are an expert in lizards, please contact me with the correct information and I will give you credit on this page. |
