The Umbrella Thorn Acacia (Acacia Tortilis) tree is an iconic tree of the African savannah.  They can survive extremes in temperature and rainfall, and have a tap root that extends over 100 feet deep into the ground in search of water.  They dot the landscape in Northern Tanzania and are everywhere in the central and northern Serengeti.
