| Common Name:
Nile Crocodile Species: Crocodylus Niloticus Length: Up to 6m |
|
|
| We spotted this baby crocodile on an open-vehicle safari in South Luangwa National Park. It was slumming in this scum-covered pond that is next to Mfuwe Lodge. There is a gang of hippos that hang out here as well, along with many wading birds. |
This baby crocodile was seen on an island in the Zambezi River, during a sunset cruise we were taking. It was getting late, hence the warmer tones that go along with a sunset. |

This much larger adult was on the same, long island, close to it's western apex. It was getting very close to sunset at this point. |
| Lizards | |
| Common Name:
House Gecko Species: Hemidactylus frenatus |
|
|
|
Geckos form an interesting subset of the lizard family. Most possess
setae on their feet, which are extremely tiny hairs that use the van der
Waals force to stick to nearly any surface. The understanding of
this force could lead to a revolution that would put Velcro to shame. This pale fellow (the normal color) was on a wooden beam at Tribal Textiles in Mfuwe, a short ways outside South Luangwa National Park. |

| Common Name:
White Frog? Species: ? |
|
This little white fellow was in our chalet at Wildlife Camp at South Luangwa National Park. He was our housemate in our bathroom during our stay. He never was very active, though we saw him in several places, so he obviously moved a few times. I have not been able so far to identify this particular frog. If you know what it is, please contact me and let me know. Thanks! |
